Have you heard of Pre-birth Acupuncture? If you are pregnant read on!

Pre- birth acupuncture refers to a series of treatments in the final weeks of pregnancy to prepare women for child-birth and to help women to prepare themselves to have the most efficient labour possible. We see women in the Blossom Tree Pregnancy clinic once a week from 36 weeks until Labour. Acupuncture sessions prior to labour provide an ideal opportunity to ensure the “Qi “ and “Blood” , the five emotions and the organs are all working in harmony. With an emphasis on preparing the cervix and pelvis for labour we can also address any issues which are presenting themselves at this late stage of pregnancy including pregnancy-induced-hypertension and symptoms such as haemorrhoids and heartburn, to name just a few.

Feedback from midwives has suggested that the time women who have received acupuncture spent in active labour was notably shorter than in those who did not receive treatment, and felt that the effect of introducing pre-birth acupuncture as part of midwifery care had contributed to reduced intervention rates, including medical inductions and c- sections (Betts D, 2006).

As well as the treatments we like to give pregnant women acupressure points to use at home pre birth and for during labour.

We also give guidance on which foods might be most nourishing post birth for mum and baby.

THE BLOSSOM TREE PREGNANCY CLINIC is a low cost sliding scale clinic running on a Thursday afternoon on the Dartington Estate 1-3pm.
